Trekking Adventure to

Mount Meru

Overview

Mount Meru, standing at 4,566 meters (14,980 feet), is Tanzania’s second-highest peak and a spectacular trekking destination. Located in Arusha National Park, Mount Meru offers breathtaking landscapes, diverse wildlife, and an unforgettable adventure. Often overshadowed by Mount Kilimanjaro, this trek is a perfect alternative for those seeking a less crowded, yet equally rewarding experience. It’s also an excellent acclimatization trek for those planning to summit Kilimanjaro.

Trekking Experience

The Mount Meru trek is a 3 to 4-day adventure through varied ecosystems, from dense rainforests to alpine deserts, before reaching the summit at Socialist Peak. Along the way, trekkers enjoy incredible views of Mount Kilimanjaro, wildlife encounters, and a dramatic crater rim walk. Unlike Kilimanjaro, where trekking is primarily about altitude, Meru offers a more immersive experience with a mix of hiking, wildlife viewing, and technical sections near the summit.

Highlights of the Trek

  • Scenic Wilderness: Hike through rainforests, moorlands, and rugged alpine zones.

  • Wildlife Encounters: Spot giraffes, buffalos, elephants, colobus monkeys, and even leopards in Arusha National Park.

  • Crater Rim Adventure: Walk along a dramatic ridge with stunning views of the Meru Crater.

  • Spectacular Sunrise: Witness breathtaking sunrise views over Mount Kilimanjaro and the Great Rift Valley.

  • Less Crowded: Enjoy a more peaceful trek compared to Kilimanjaro.
